The African Futures Lab (AfaLab) is now accepting applications for the AfaRise Fellowship Program 2025–2027, a bold two-year initiative supporting early-stage changemakers across Africa, Europe, and the global Afro-diaspora who are committed to dismantling racial injustice.
Designed for activists, artists, researchers, and practitioners, the AfaRise Fellowship empowers those working at the intersection of race, gender, climate, and economic justice. Selected fellows will receive support to develop and amplify projects grounded in reparatory justice, decolonial thought, and Afro-feminist leadership.
Fellowship Highlights:

The fellowship provides:

Access to a global peer community of racial justice leaders

Who Should Apply?
AfaRise is open to early-stage visionaries based in Africa or Europe who are:

Passionate about racial justice and decolonial systems change

Leading or initiating a relevant project—be it a book, podcast, organizing campaign, art installation, or research effort

Equipped with contextual knowledge of African, European, or Afro-diasporic realities
-
Committed to radical, intersectional transformation
Multilingual applicants (especially in English and French), and those with cross-sector experience are especially encouraged to apply.
What’s Expected:

Regular participation in virtual strategy and learning sessions

Ongoing project updates and collaboration with peers

A final presentation of the fellow’s project at the end of the program
Selection & Evaluation:

Eight fellows will be selected after a rigorous review and interview process

AfaLab will prioritize diverse representation, thematic relevance, and clarity of purpose

Applications should reflect authenticity, innovation, and alignment with the fellowship’s justice-centered vision
