A Nigerian man working in the United Kingdom (UK) is reportedly facing possible deportation after being summoned before a disciplinary committee at his workplace for making remarks about his female colleague’s body.
The incident, which has ignited mixed reactions online, was shared by the popular social media commentator, Mufti of Ilorin, on his X (formerly Twitter) account. According to the post, the Nigerian employee allegedly told his white female colleague that she was “adding weight” and that “if she entered the gym, her shape would really make sense.” The woman reportedly found the comments traumatising and lodged a formal complaint.
The man is now expected to appear before his company’s disciplinary committee on Tuesday. His job, and more crucially, his legal residency in the UK, is at stake, as the company is said to be his visa sponsor. If his employment is terminated, it could lead to deportation.
“This same guy was asking two of his colleagues who are lesbians how they had their daughter,” the thread revealed.
“He was previously warned and protected by the acting director, who is Nigerian. I’m just too sad and worried about him.”
The tweet has since gone viral, generating heated debate about boundaries, cultural differences, and consequences in professional spaces abroad.
Some commenters expressed sympathy, hoping he receives a warning rather than deportation. Others were less forgiving.
“He should be punished, please. Not necessarily deportation, but I sincerely hope he doesn’t get away with it,” one user wrote.
“There is a possibility he is doing it again and might reference how he got away with it, even in a developed country.”
Another user, however, defended him: “Nobody is saying what he did is right, but at least don’t wish deportation on him. That’s harsh.”
In response to the viral discourse, one Nigerian professional in the UK added, “Guy, the only thing I discuss with my British colleagues here is football and how Nigerian food is better than British food. Anything beyond that? You won’t hear me there.”
