How a University Student Stabbed Female Colleague, Faked Her Kidnap for N2m Ransom

A second-year student of the Southern Delta University, Ozoro, Okeoghene Prince, has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly stabbing a female colleague, Peace Oba, and staging her kidnap in a bid to extort ₦2 million from her father.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the shocking incident occurred on June 14 when the suspect lured Peace, a 100-level Chemistry student, to the university auditorium under the guise of having an academic discussion. Prince, who is in the Accounting Department, had reportedly armed himself with a knife and carried out a brutal attack, stabbing Peace twice in the neck and once in the chest.

After the assault, Prince allegedly took the victim’s phone and called her father, claiming she had been kidnapped. He demanded a ransom of ₦2 million and later requested a quicker advance payment of ₦200,000, threatening to kill her if the money wasn’t sent. The suspect then abandoned Peace in the auditorium, where she was eventually discovered by university security personnel.

Despite the severe injuries, Peace survived. Before losing consciousness, she reportedly identified Prince as her attacker and described how he attempted to kill her. The school authorities immediately began a search for the suspect, leading to his arrest the following day, June 15.

Recovered at the scene were the blood-stained knife used in the attack and the victim’s phone, which the suspect had used to contact her father.

In a chilling confession, Prince admitted to planning the attack with the sole aim of extorting money. “Peace is my friend; we are not dating. We have been friends for over a month,” he told investigators. “I invited her to the school auditorium. I went there with a knife with the intention to kill her. I wanted to use it to collect ransom from her father. She didn’t offend me.”

Explaining further, he said: “Before I stabbed her, we were discussing school activities. I had access to her phone because she had opened it before I attacked her. I called her father to demand a ₦2 million ransom and used the Palmpay account of a friend in Lagos. I got the account number by sending money to him before, and I thought I could use it to collect the ransom and ask him to return it later.”

The police spokesperson, SP Edafe, condemned the act and advised Nigerians to be vigilant, especially when asked to help transfer or receive money from friends under suspicious circumstances. He confirmed that the suspect would be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.

Meanwhile, Peace remains in critical condition at a hospital in Ondo State, as her family and school authorities pray for her recovery.
