Arsenal and Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with multiple sexual offences following an extensive investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorized the charges after reviewing evidence submitted by detectives.
The 32-year-old footballer, who resides in Hertfordshire, faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving three separate women. The charges detail that:
-
Two counts of rape relate to one woman.
-
Three counts of rape involve a second woman.
-
One count of sexual assault pertains to a third woman.
The alleged offences occurred between 2021 and 2022. The investigation began in February 2022 after police received an initial report of rape.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, leading the investigation, emphasized the priority of supporting the victims: “Our focus remains on providing assistance to the women who have come forward. We encourage anyone affected by this case or with relevant information to contact our team.”
Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 5 August.
Support for victims of sexual violence is available through the 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line, operated by the independent charity Rape Crisis.
Authorities have urged responsible reporting in line with legal guidelines to avoid prejudicing ongoing proceedings. Media outlets and social media users are reminded of their obligations under the Contempt of Court Act 1981.
Partey, a key player for both Arsenal and the Ghana national team, has yet to issue a public statement regarding the charges. The football clubs involved have also not commented at this stage.
Further updates will follow as the case progresses.
