A commercial tricycle rider, Lucky Okoro, has been widely celebrated for his act of honesty after he returned ₦4 million forgotten by a passenger in his vehicle in Aba, Abia State.
The incident, which has since gone viral, occurred after Okoro picked up a female passenger from the popular Aba Main Park and dropped her off at Ariaria. Unknown to the woman — a Cameroonian national — she had left a bag containing the large sum inside the tricycle, popularly known as “Keke.”
Okoro, who shared the story on his Facebook page, said he returned to the park to look for the woman but couldn’t find her. He later traced her to Ariaria Market, where he found her crying and in distress.
“I called her, wiped all her tears, then returned the money to her,” he wrote. “She was so relieved. I even took her to a hotel so she could rest before continuing her journey.”
Despite facing ridicule from some fellow riders who labeled him a “mugun” — a slang term for someone seen as naïve or easily exploited — Okoro stood by his decision.
“Some Keke people mocked me, but I am not a mugun,” he said. “I love what I did. I made her happy, and I thank Jehovah for the strength to do the right thing.”
Okoro, a Jehovah’s Witness from Umuomei in Obingwa Local Government Area, said his faith and upbringing played a key role in guiding his actions.
Footage circulating online shows an emotional reunion between the two, with bystanders applauding the tricycle rider’s integrity.
Social media has been flooded with tributes, with many Nigerians praising Okoro as a symbol of honesty in difficult times.
This isn’t the first such story in Abia. In May, Governor Alex Otti rewarded another tricycle rider who returned ₦2.4 million to a passenger. That rider received a ₦1.4 million cash reward and public recognition from the state government.
