Police React to Viral Video of Armed Officers Escorting Actress Angela Okorie While Jogging

The Nigeria Police Force has issued a strong condemnation of a viral video showing actress Angela Okorie jogging while flanked by armed police officers, describing the conduct as “clearly inconsistent with professional standards.”

In a statement released on Wednesday by Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the police said the incident—believed to have occurred on or around a movie set—has sparked widespread public concern and criticism, especially regarding the perceived misuse of armed personnel.

“The Nigeria Police Force strongly frowns at the conduct of armed police officers seen in a viral video trailing actress Angela Okorie while she jogged—an act considered clearly inconsistent with the professional standards and decorum expected of personnel of the Force,” the statement read.

While it remains unclear whether the officers were acting as part of a scripted movie production or providing unauthorized security detail, the police stressed that such conduct does not align with the discipline and decorum expected of its officers.

“Necessary administrative processes have been initiated to identify the officers involved and determine the circumstances surrounding the video,” Adejobi added. “Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken based on the outcome of the review.”

The Force reiterated its commitment to professionalism and public trust, assuring Nigerians that internal mechanisms are in place to address any deviation from its core values.

The video, which has been widely shared across social media platforms, shows Okorie jogging while heavily armed officers follow closely behind, raising eyebrows and drawing criticism over perceived abuse of state security resources. The footage has also sparked debate over the celebrity culture of police escorts in Nigeria.

As of press time, Angela Okorie has not publicly commented on the incident.
