Iran Retaliates, Fires Missiles at US Base in Qatar

The United States (US) launched a surprise airstrike on three Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend, marking a dangerous escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran. The strikes, carried out by B-2 bombers using Massive Ordnance Penetrators—commonly known as “bunker busters”—were confirmed by U.S. officials late Saturday.

President Donald Trump described the mission as a success, declaring on Sunday that “monumental damage was done to all nuclear sites in Iran.” However, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine stated that a full battle damage assessment is still pending.

In a swift response, Iran launched a missile attack on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest U.S. military installation in the region. Iranian state media dubbed the operation “Annunciation of Victory” and framed it as a direct retaliation for what it called “American aggression.”

According to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the missile strike was a demonstration of Iran’s readiness and resolve. “The US mobile military bases and targets in the region are not a point of strength, but rather a major weakness,” the Iranian military said in a statement aired on state TV.

A senior U.S. defense official has confirmed the attack on the base, stating that Iran had been preparing its missile systems in anticipation of a U.S. strike. The White House and Pentagon are reportedly monitoring the situation closely.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, speaking at a public protest in Tehran, warned that any aggression against the country would be met with force. “We did not start this war, but we will never let any attack go unanswered,” he said. “We will respond to every wound on Iran’s body with faith, wisdom, and determination.”

The situation is rapidly evolving, with U.S. officials also expressing concern about potential threats to other strategic locations in the region. Qatar has since closed its airspace, and the IRGC has issued additional warnings to the United States.
