The Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has expelled six students for examination malpractice and withdrawn 273 others for poor academic performance during the 2024/2025 academic session.
This decision, affecting a total of 279 students, was reached at the institution’s 120th Academic Board meeting held on Thursday, April 17, at the main campus in Lokoja.
In a statement released by the institution’s Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Uredo Omale, the management approved the withdrawal of the 273 students following their substandard performance in the first-semester examinations. The affected students reportedly cut across 20 departments and 42 academic programmes.
Chairman of the Academic Board and Rector of the Polytechnic, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, commended the Academic Board Result Verification Committee, led by Deputy Rector Dr. Samuel Taiwo Olowo, for its diligence and thorough review of results. He, however, expressed disappointment at the poor performance recorded, especially considering the institution’s effort to maintain a conducive learning environment.
In addition, the board approved the expulsion of six students after confirming cases of examination malpractice, based on the findings of the Central Examination Misconduct Committee headed by Dr. (Mrs.) Grace Ehimony.
Professor Usman praised the efforts of the misconduct committees across the board and urged for sustained collaboration to uphold the institution’s academic standards.
He reiterated the Polytechnic’s commitment to reforms aimed at improving the quality of education and called on students to be more focused and take full advantage of the institution’s academic environment.
The Polytechnic also directed all affected students to return any property belonging to the school, including their identity cards, to the security unit before officially exiting the campus.
