SEALS CUP 2025: MBBS, Human Kinetics Emerge Kings and Queens of UI Football

After a month of electrifying fixtures, nail-biting finishes, and campus-wide excitement, the curtains have officially fallen on the 2025 edition of the SEALS Cup at the University of Ibadan.

In a season that tested grit, skill, and stamina, two champions emerged, conquering all odds in what has been hailed as one of the most surreal editions of the tournament yet.

In the female category, Human Kinetics successfully defended their title, proving once again that they are a force to be reckoned with in female campus football. Their 2-0 victory over Philosophy was sealed by an outstanding performance from Debby, who netted both goals and was deservedly named Woman of the Match. Her brace not only secured the win but ensured that the coveted trophy remained within the Faculty of Education.

The male final, however, was a tale of endurance, nerves, and sheer drama. MBBS faced off against Human Kinetics in what turned out to be a classic final that had fans on edge till the very end. With both teams locked in a goalless stalemate after regular and extra time, the match was decided by a staggering 24-penalty shootout.

Ultimately, it was the veteran goalkeeper Emerald of MBBS who etched his name in SEALS folklore, saving the final spot-kick after both team captains had earlier missed theirs. His heroics earned him the Man of the Match title and delivered MBBS their first-ever SEALS Cup title in the male category.

The SEALS Cup ‘25 featured over 45 teams across both male and female categories, with departments and faculties fielding squads full of hungry talents and passionate supporters. From nail-biting quarter-finals to upset-filled semis, the competition lived up to its billing as the biggest interdepartmental football showpiece on campus.
