Why Tyler Perry Is Still Trending

Famed filmmaker and billionaire media mogul Tyler Perry is trending across social media and news platforms following explosive allegations of sexual harassment and assault filed in a $260 million lawsuit by actor and screenwriter Derek Dixon.

The 46-page complaint, filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, accuses Perry of repeated unwanted sexual advances and coercion over a span of several years, beginning with what Dixon described as a manipulative offer of an acting role in exchange for silence and submission.

“Mr. Perry’s success has led him to believe that money and influence can get him whatever he wants,” the lawsuit claims. “He sought the one thing his wealth could not purchase — a sexual relationship with a man who would remain silent.”
The suit alleges that Perry first approached Dixon in 2019 while the latter worked for an events company, eventually offering him a role in Perry’s BET series The Oval. Not long after, Dixon claims he was invited to Perry’s home in Georgia, served several drinks, and told to stay in the guest room — only for Perry to allegedly enter uninvited and begin groping him.

Dixon states he attempted to avoid confrontation by subtly rejecting Perry’s advances without offending him due to the career opportunity being dangled before him.

According to the complaint, Perry continued to send explicit texts, make sexual demands, and refer to Dixon as his on-call “pet.” Despite Dixon securing a role in The Oval, he claims that Perry used his influence to manipulate his character’s storyline and job security, allegedly promising future appearances if Dixon “did a good job.”

The allegations grow more serious as the suit details multiple incidents of groping — one allegedly occurring during a cast trip to the Bahamas in 2020, and another in 2021 at Perry’s house, where Perry reportedly pulled down Dixon’s underwear and aggressively groped him.

“Dixon was naked, stunned, and seized by tremendous fear,” the suit says of the 2021 encounter.
The lawsuit also accuses Perry of trying to buy Dixon’s silence by purchasing the rights to a script Dixon had written, titled Losing It, which he allegedly never intended to produce. Perry’s team, according to the lawsuit, offered this project and salary raises as quid pro quo gestures, while instructing Dixon not to speak of their “friendship” to castmates.

Eventually, Dixon rejected a writing position offer and filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The status of that complaint remains unclear as of press time.

In response, Perry’s legal team denied the allegations, accusing Dixon of orchestrating a calculated smear campaign.

“Tyler will not be shaken down and we are confident these fabricated claims of harassment will fail,” a statement from Perry’s attorney read.
The lawsuit has reignited conversations around power, coercion, and sexual misconduct in Hollywood, placing Tyler Perry — one of the most influential Black creators in global entertainment — under intense public and media scrutiny.
