Makinde 2027: Presidential Posters Flood Jigawa as Supporters Launch Northern Mobilisation Drive

Presidential campaign posters of Oyo State Governor, Engr. Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde, have taken over key locations in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State, as well as major towns and local government headquarters across the state, signalling the early stirrings of a 2027 presidential ambition.

The posters, boldly branded with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) logo, carry messages such as: “To move Nigeria forward 2027, His Excellency Engineer Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde for President, Federal Republic of Nigeria” and “2027: To move Nigeria forward, Seyi Makinde is the answer.”

Prominent areas now decorated with Makinde’s campaign materials include Unity Pentagon, the Police Headquarters, Mai Kwarya Roundabout, Obasanjo Road, Muhammadu Buhari Street, Abdulsalami Abubakar Street, and Abdullahi Mai Kano Dutse Road.

The development was confirmed by Alhaji Lawal Abdullahi, National Secretary of the Nigeria Youths Awareness Group Makinde 2027 (NYAG Makinde 2027), in an interview with Tribune Online in Dutse.

“His Excellency Engineer Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde has submitted himself for Nigeria and Nigerians,” Abdullahi said.

“Hence the need for all patriotic lovers of democracy, irrespective of party affiliations, to rally around him to realise the objective.”

He disclosed that the campaign has the backing of several grassroots and youth coalitions, noting that multiple groups had met and agreed to unite behind the Oyo State governor.

“We are a moving train and there is no stopping us until we achieve our objective of a Seyi Makinde presidency,” he declared.

According to Abdullahi, consultations have already been held with key politicians, powerbrokers, and prominent citizens across the country, many of whom have pledged their support for the movement.

“The Seyi Makinde 2027 project is a massive movement which will catch and spread like wildfire,” he said.

“We have concluded all necessary arrangements — the posters, billboards, handbills, and other branded materials are ready.”

He further revealed that a coordinated national mobilisation is underway, with Jigawa being just the starting point. By the following week, he said, Northern Nigeria will be saturated with the Makinde campaign materials.

“Jigawa, Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, Borno, Yobe, and Gombe States will explode for Seyi Makinde next week,” he noted.

“Other states will follow subsequently. Our movement will take over Northern Nigeria for Seyi Makinde, after which Southern Nigeria will be visited.”

While Governor Makinde himself has not made any formal declaration regarding the 2027 presidential race, the growing momentum of posters and grassroots mobilisation may be a signal of political calculations already in motion.

Makinde, widely praised for his governance strides in Oyo State and his role within the PDP as a voice for youth-inclusive and technocratic leadership, is increasingly being projected as a credible southern contender for the presidency come 2027.

Observers say that the coordinated moves in the North, especially in APC-dominated strongholds like Jigawa and Kano, suggest that Makinde’s supporters are keen on testing the waters far beyond his South-West base.
