Why Davido Backed Out of Performing with 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Davido, has officially withdrawn from 50 Cent’s upcoming concert at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, citing unresolved issues and a need to protect the integrity of his craft.

The event, scheduled for July 3, is part of 50 Cent’s Legacy Tour and also features iconic R&B singer Mary J. Blige. Davido announced his decision in a statement released via his Instagram Stories on Saturday, June 14.

“Despite strong fan support and impressive ticket sales, there have been major misalignments regarding the event’s execution,” Davido said. “Particularly concerning key elements required to uphold the integrity and quality of my performance.”

The ‘Unavailable’ hitmaker stressed that the decision was not influenced by turnout or ticket sales, but rather by “a matter of principle and respect” for his art, his fans, and the culture he represents.

“My team and I have worked tirelessly in preparation, and I am incredibly grateful to the thousands of fans who purchased tickets in anticipation,” he added. “This decision is not a reflection of turnout or support. It is a matter of principle.”

Davido further explained that he had provided full cooperation to the promoters — The Neto Future Group and IconicPresents — but the issues remained unresolved.

“Over the past few weeks, I have extended my full support and professionalism… with the sincere intention of delivering a performance that meets the high standards my fans deserve,” he said.

While confirming his exit from the July 3 concert, the global music star reassured fans that the rest of his summer shows across Europe and North America remain unaffected.

“London, I’ll see you guys soon, I promise! The rest of the shows this summer are still happening — Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Canada, and the US,” he affirmed. “Africa must be respected.”

Davido’s withdrawal has sparked conversations online about the treatment of African artists in global events, with many fans applauding his decision to take a stand for artistic integrity and cultural dignity.

As of press time, the concert is still set to proceed without Davido.
