2027: I’ll Win If I Contest — Oriyomi Hamzat Declares Amid Growing Speculations

Renowned Ibadan-based broadcaster and founder of Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Oriyomi Hamzat, has declared that he is confident of winning the 2027 Oyo State governorship election if he chooses to run.

Hamzat made the bold statement during a recent live broadcast while responding to a caller who advised him against joining the race. The overseas caller warned that despite his popularity and humanitarian efforts, Hamzat should not assume the support of the masses would translate into electoral victory.

“Don’t listen to those who are saying ‘Oyo is calling Oriyomi Hamzat’. They’re deceiving you,” the caller said. “Even where your radio station is, if politicians take money there, you’ll lose the polling unit. The people won’t vote for you.”

Unfazed by the caution, Hamzat fired back, asserting that he is not one to be discouraged by negative predictions or unsolicited political advice.

“Don’t say they won’t vote for me,” Hamzat said. “You might even be the one to push me into contesting. I have my own brain, and I don’t want to listen to that kind of advice again.”

Reaffirming his belief in his grassroots appeal and capacity, Hamzat stated emphatically:

“If I contest, I will win. You are using yesterday to judge today. Do you know the minds of the voters?”

He also emphasized that comparisons with other politicians or assumptions based on past elections are misleading, arguing that public sentiments are dynamic and not easily predictable.

“Stop advising me like that,” he said. “Even if I listen to your advice, I still know what I want to do. And if I don’t, it doesn’t mean you are my enemy.”

Hamzat’s comments come amid the appearance of campaign posters across parts of Ibadan, bearing his image and the slogan “2027: Oyo n pe o” (Oyo is calling you).

While he has not officially declared his candidacy, the broadcast has reignited public speculation about his political ambition and raised questions about whether the popular broadcaster will indeed join the 2027 race.
