After God, My Loyalty Lies with Tinubu – Umahi Declares

Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has openly declared that his loyalty is to God first and then to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that he takes instructions from no one else but the two.

Speaking in Abakaliki during an interaction with journalists, Umahi responded to President Tinubu’s recent public commendation of his work on national infrastructure projects, describing the praise as worth more than “one trillion dollars.”

“I have told the president, even publicly, that my loyalty is to God first and then to him. When a man gives you the type of trust Tinubu has given me, you will be of the devil to betray him,” Umahi said.

The minister, known for his hands-on approach to monitoring construction projects across the country, said the president’s trust in his leadership — particularly in overseeing projects running into trillions of naira — is a rare show of confidence.

“Have you seen where a man presides over the procurement of a project worth N1.6 trillion and his boss doesn’t call him to ask how he went about it?” he asked rhetorically.

Umahi warned that anyone who received such a level of trust from the president and still chose to betray him would “incur the wrath of God.”

In a passionate statement, he added:
“I pray every day that if I ever place myself, my family, or friends above God, President Tinubu, and the Nigerian people, may God not answer my prayers.”

He also pledged to continue praying for President Tinubu and for all Nigerians who support the administration and its development goals.

Umahi dedicated the president’s commendation to those who have supported him in prayer and vowed to keep pushing contractors to meet deadlines on several large-scale road and bridge projects across Nigeria.

“This means contractors will be on their toes to complete about 30 mega projects which the president is expected to inaugurate by December 20,” he said.

According to the minister, these infrastructure projects cut across all six geo-political zones and represent one of the most ambitious undertakings in the history of Nigeria’s Ministry of Works.

Senator Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State, has emerged as one of the most prominent figures in the Tinubu cabinet, particularly in the area of infrastructure development. His loyalty declaration comes as the administration enters a crucial phase in delivering on its promises to Nigerians.
