Man Jumps Into Well, Dies After Taking ‘Colorado’ in Ilorin

A 43-year-old man, identified as Kazeem, from the Edun area of Ilorin, Kwara State, died in a tragic incident last Friday after allegedly consuming a hard drug known locally as “Colo” (Colorado) and jumping into a well.

The incident reportedly occurred shortly after Kazeem returned home from Eid prayers. According to eyewitnesses, the victim, under the influence of the psychoactive substance, leapt into a domestic well situated within the Alapo Compound in Edun, Ilorin.

Following a distress call at about 10:29 a.m., officials of the Kwara State Fire Service were swiftly deployed to the scene. The Service’s spokesman, Hassan Adekunle, confirmed the development in a statement released on Saturday.

“Our firefighters were immediately mobilized and successfully recovered the lifeless body of the victim from the well,” Adekunle said, noting that the deceased was believed to have ingested the hard drug shortly before the incident.

The recovered body was handed over to Inspector Babatunde Amos of the Nigeria Police Force, ‘C’ Division, Ilorin, while the Kwara State Ministry of Health awaits formal identification and claim of the remains by the deceased’s family.

Commenting on the tragedy, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, issued a stern warning against substance abuse. He emphasized that drug misuse continues to contribute to avoidable fatalities and urged residents to steer clear of hard drugs.
