Senior Pastor of the House on the Rock Church, Paul Adefarasin, has refuted claims circulating on social media suggesting he brandished a firearm in a recently viral video.
The video clip, which began trending earlier this week, shows Adefarasin holding a metallic object during a brief exchange with a passerby who appeared to be filming him. The footage sparked widespread speculation, with many alleging that the popular Lagos-based preacher was in possession of a gun.
Addressing the issue in a statement released via his official social media channels on Saturday, Adefarasin described the viral claims as a case of misunderstanding and misinformation. He clarified that the object seen in the video was not a firearm and emphasized that he did not point it at anyone.
“You might be aware of a video circulating on social media showing me in what some have misunderstood as brandishing a firearm,” he stated. “I want to assure you — that was certainly not a firearm, and at no point did I point such at anyone.”
The pastor acknowledged the public concern the video had generated and said the issue would be briefly addressed during the church’s Sunday service at 9:00 a.m.
“We understand the concern this accusation may have caused, and we will speak briefly to this mischief during the 9:00 a.m. service tomorrow. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” Adefarasin added.
He also urged the public to remain calm and not be swayed by false narratives or sensationalized content surrounding the incident.
The development comes amid growing scrutiny of public figures in Nigeria, particularly religious leaders, as social media continues to amplify controversies—whether verified or not.
The House on the Rock Church has not issued further comments, but members and supporters have begun sharing messages of support across digital platforms, urging critics to verify facts before drawing conclusions.
