The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has revealed that God gave him a stern warning early in his ministry: that his firstborn would die if he ever left the church.
Adeboye made this shocking revelation during the June Holy Ghost Service held in the early hours of Saturday at the RCCG Redemption City in Ogun State, while preaching on the theme, “Destined for Greatness (Part 2).”
In his sermon, the revered cleric emphasized the importance of divine direction and spiritual steadfastness, using his personal journey in ministry to illustrate the weight of obedience to God’s instructions.
“When I got born again, there were three major ministries making waves at the time,” he said. “There were temptations to move from one to another. But God said to me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.’”
Adeboye recounted how RCCG was then a relatively unknown ministry, with its headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos. Despite being a university lecturer at the time, he said God instructed him to serve under a spiritual leader who had no formal education.
“My father in the Lord didn’t attend secondary school — not even primary. But God said this is where you will stay,” Adeboye stated.
The prominent cleric used the moment to caution young Christians against the modern trend of frequently changing churches, urging them to seek and stick with divine placement rather than chasing trends.
“Discover where God wants you to stay, and stay there,” he urged.
Adeboye clarified that his message was not an attempt to compare RCCG to other churches. “I am not saying we are better than any other denomination,” he added. “But for each of us, there is a place God has assigned. Be sure you are where God wants you to be.”
