Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a major political shift that could reshape the state’s power dynamics.
The announcement came during a high-profile ceremony held at the Government House in Uyo on Friday, June 6, drawing notable APC leaders and political heavyweights from across the country.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Eno stated: “After completing the rounds of my consultation as your servant whom you have elected to serve, I have therefore decided to progressively move to the APC.”
He further explained that his decision was not borne out of political desperation but strategic alignment: “We are not joining the APC from a position of weakness, but from a position of strength. We’re bringing value to Akwa Ibom State. We’ve come into the APC with a ministry of reconciliation.”
Among the dignitaries present were Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Cross River Governor Bassey Otu, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who attended alongside his wife, Ekaette Akpabio.
Governor Eno’s defection has sparked intense debate among PDP stakeholders in the state, with some party loyalists expressing surprise and concern over the move.
