The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Ibadan, Professor Aderonke M. Baiyeroju, has described the institution’s Faculty of Dentistry as the flagship of dental education in Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, during a courtesy visit by the Ibadan Dental School Alumni Association, Professor Baiyeroju praised the faculty’s consistency in excellence and innovation. The visit took place at the Vice-Chancellor’s office as part of activities marking the association’s 50th anniversary.
The DVC commended the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Professor Bamidele M. Kolude, for his leadership and for bringing the Local Organising Committee members of the golden jubilee celebration to pay homage to the university leadership. She noted that the faculty’s hard work and persistence were key to its outstanding reputation.
“When faculties thrive, the university advances,” Professor Baiyeroju remarked, assuring the alumni of the Vice-Chancellor’s unwavering support and continued commitment to the growth and sustainability of the faculty.
In his remarks, Professor Kolude expressed deep gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and university management for their consistent support, especially during the faculty’s most recent accreditation process. He also acknowledged the Vice-Chancellor’s efforts in facilitating the allocation of the Ministry of Education Fund—originally designated for the College of Medicine—to the Faculty of Dentistry for the construction of a modern facility that will include clinics, lecture rooms, and administrative offices.
The visit was part of ongoing activities to commemorate five decades of excellence at Nigeria’s premier dental school.
