Netflix Raises Subscription Prices in Nigeria by Over 21%

Streaming giant Netflix has increased its subscription fees across all plans in Nigeria, with the Premium Plan now priced at ₦8,500 per month, up from ₦7,000—a 21.43% jump. This marks the company’s first price hike in 2025 and the third adjustment since 2024.

According to the updated pricing on Netflix’s official website, other plans have also seen significant increases:

Standard Plan: ₦6,500 (up 18.18% from ₦5,500)
Basic Plan: ₦4,000 (up 14.29% from ₦3,500)
Mobile Plan: ₦2,500 (up 13.64% from ₦2,200)
Netflix says the price increases are part of a global strategy aimed at funding new content, enhancing user experience, and supporting long-term growth. In a statement to investors, the company said:

“As we invest in and improve Netflix, we’ll occasionally ask our members to pay a little extra to reflect those improvements—driving the positive flywheel of further investment and service growth.”
Although inflation was not explicitly cited, Netflix acknowledged that local economic conditions influence pricing decisions.

“Price changes are made to respond to local market changes, such as changes to local taxes or inflation,” it noted on its website.
The latest adjustment follows a broader trend among tech and media companies operating in Nigeria. Firms such as Google, DSTV, GOtv, and Microsoft have also raised subscription prices in recent months, pointing to persistent inflation, increased operational costs, and the depreciating naira as key drivers.
