Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, visited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos, marking a significant development amid the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.
The visit was confirmed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Information Strategy, who shared the update via his verified Facebook page.
“Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers, now on suspension from office, visited President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Tuesday,” Onanuga wrote.
The context of the visit is particularly striking, given that President Tinubu had declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, due to the deepening rift between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
In that same broadcast, Tinubu announced the suspension of Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months. He also appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas as administrator to oversee the state’s affairs during the emergency period.
Although the reason for Fubara’s visit remains unclear, the meeting has triggered fresh political speculation, with observers questioning whether a reconciliation or renegotiation of terms might be underway.
This is a developing story.
