The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has officially suspended its nationwide strike and instructed its members to return to work starting Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
The decision was announced in a communiqué signed by JUSUN’s National Vice President alongside 10 other key leaders from various chapters of the union. The communiqué revealed that the suspension followed a series of extensive deliberations and negotiations with the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and other critical stakeholders.
According to the union, the CJN and other parties appealed for an end to the industrial action to enable further engagement with the Federal Government on the demands raised by JUSUN.
As part of the agreement, JUSUN will work closely with the Federal Government to ensure the release of outstanding funds to the judiciary within a month. The union emphasized that the strike was suspended in good faith to give room for the government to meet its obligations.
The communiqué further stated that once the funds are released, the implementation of the ₦70,000 new minimum wage, its arrears, the 25/35% salary increase, and the five-month wage award arrears would commence immediately.
The communiqué was also signed by top executives from JUSUN chapters across the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC), Court of Appeal, Federal High Court, National Industrial Court, National Judicial Institute, FCT High Court, FCT Sharia Court, FCT Customary Court, and the FCT Judicial Service Commission.
JUSUN urged its members to return to their duty posts while maintaining solidarity as the leadership continues to push for full implementation of the agreement.
