The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has officially invited controversial Nigerian singer, Darlington Okoye—widely known by his stage name Speed Darlington—for questioning following allegations that he raped a minor in a Lagos hotel.
The invitation was issued after the Lagos State Government formally notified NAPTIP of the alleged crime. The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) confirmed the development on its official social media platforms, citing a viral video in which the singer appeared to confess during an Instagram Live session to engaging in sexual activity with an underage girl.
In a letter dated May 28, 2025, and signed by Ngamaraju Titus Mangzha, Head of NAPTIP’s Cybercrime Response Team, the agency summoned the singer to appear at its headquarters in Abuja on Friday, May 30, 2025, for an interview.
The letter, shared via NAPTIP’s official Facebook page, stated:
“We write to formally invite you to appear before the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in respect of certain video materials recently circulated online, including but not limited to a particular Instagram video wherein you allegedly made statements admitting to having engaged in sexual acts with an underage girl.”
The agency further noted that other archived videos also contained similarly disturbing and incriminating content, including degrading comments about minors. According to NAPTIP, these actions, if substantiated, constitute serious offences under the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA), 2015, and the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
NAPTIP emphasized the importance of the singer’s cooperation, warning that failure to honour the invitation could result in further legal action.
“Please be informed that your cooperation is critical to ensuring a fair and thorough inquiry into the matter,” the letter concluded.
As of press time, Speed Darlington has not publicly responded to the invitation or the allegations.
