World record holder and Nigerian sprint sensation, Tobi Amusan, reignited her 2025 season on Sunday with a commanding victory in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Diamond League meet in Rabat, Morocco.
Amusan blazed through the track in a season-best 12.24 seconds, smashing the previous meet record of 12.51 seconds set by American Brianna McNeal in 2018. Her official winning time was clocked at 12.45 seconds, securing her first major win of the year and reasserting her position as one of the world’s premier hurdlers.
The 28-year-old, who endured a slow start to the season with fourth-place finishes in Xiamen and Shanghai, credited her return to form to a renewed focus on technical training.
“More hurdles practice, because I had been doing more sprinting. After the first two Diamond League meetings, I knew I had to go back to doing more hurdle drills. Two weeks in, I can tell the difference,” Amusan told reporters after the race.
Her victory in Rabat marks a significant comeback following a disappointing end to the 2024 season, where she failed to qualify for the 100m hurdles final at the Paris Olympics. Though she picked up a win at Jamaica’s Velocity Fest 16 earlier in March, that meet lacked the level of competition present in Rabat.
With the hurdles event excluded from the recent Doha Diamond League stop, the Rabat meet provided a critical opportunity for Amusan to make a statement — and she did just that.
Now viewed as a frontrunner for the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo, Amusan’s triumph sends a strong message to her rivals and reaffirms Nigeria’s presence on the global athletics stage.

Amusan is an amazing athlete. Keep breaking records.
