BREAKING: Tinubu Halts Wike’s Property Revocations, Grants 14-day Grace To PDP, Others

President Bola Tinubu has stepped in to suspend the ongoing revocation and sealing of properties in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) over unpaid ground rents, granting a 14-day grace period to affected individuals and institutions to regularise their documentation and settle outstanding debts.

The announcement was made Monday night in Abuja by the Director of Land Administration in the FCT, Mr. Chijioke Nwankwoeze, who disclosed that enforcement had already commenced on 4,794 properties, some of which have defaulted on payments for over four decades.

According to Nwankwoeze, the affected properties span government agencies, corporate organisations, and private individuals, and were targeted as part of the FCT Administration’s effort to enforce compliance with land regulations.

However, following President Tinubu’s intervention, property owners now have two weeks to clear their arrears and avoid permanent revocation. Penalties vary by location:

Properties in the Central Area must pay an additional N5 million
Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse II, and Guzape defaulters face a N3 million penalty
Those in Wuse I, Garki I, and Garki II will pay N2 million
In addition, property buyers who are yet to secure the Minister’s Consent or register their Deeds of Assignment have been given 14 days to do so at the FCT Land Department.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike also extended the grace period to all holders of Right of Occupancy (R-of-O) and Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) to clear their bills or risk revocation.

The FCT administration urged all landowners to comply with payment obligations to enable the government to fund critical infrastructure and developmental projects across the territory.
