Adeola, daughter of veteran Nollywood actress Jumoke George, has opened up about her harrowing experience in Mali, revealing she was trafficked and sold into prostitution for N1.5 million.
In a deeply emotional interview with actress Biola Bayo, Adeola recounted the traumatic events she endured while in Mali. She said she was deceived into travelling and was later handed over to a woman who claimed to have bought her for N1.5 million.
“When I got to Mali, I was told I’d be working for a Madam,” she shared. “The woman told me she bought me for N1.5 million and that I’d be doing prostitution. I was suffering but I kept enduring.”
Adeola described how, despite her efforts to save up and return to Nigeria, she couldn’t raise enough money. She admitted to losing all hope and even considered death as her only escape.
“I drank hypo in front of them once. I kept calling people in Nigeria, but I never called my mother or children. I had lost hope. I thought Mali would be my end,” she said through tears.
She also apologized to Nigerian mothers, saying she was not a bad child and begging for forgiveness: “All the mothers in Nigeria, please forgive me. I’m not a bad child. I have learnt my lessons.”
The emotional reunion between Adeola and her mother, Jumoke George, was captured in a viral video posted by Biola Bayo. In the video, the veteran actress is seen sobbing uncontrollably as she embraces her daughter for the first time in four years.
Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, confirmed Adeola’s return to Nigeria via X (formerly Twitter), stating that the commission had received her from Mali where she had been trafficked.
The revelation comes just days after Jumoke George shared in an earlier interview that she had been homeless for several years and was battling health issues, further compounding the public’s concern for her well-being.
