Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police Force have arrested 20 individuals suspected of hacking the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.
The arrests were made in Abuja following a joint operation targeting a cybercrime syndicate believed to comprise over 100 members. The group is allegedly involved in breaching the computer servers of key examination bodies, including the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the National Examinations Council (NECO).
Security sources say the suspects are believed to have used sophisticated hacking tools to manipulate test scores and gain unauthorized access to sensitive examination data.
Although details are still unfolding, the development raises concerns over the integrity of Nigeria’s computer-based testing systems, which are increasingly vulnerable to cyber threats.
Authorities have pledged to intensify investigations and ensure all individuals connected to the syndicate are brought to justice.
More details are expected to emerge as the DSS and police continue their probe.
