The Governing Council of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) has dismissed Dr. Usman Aliyu, a senior lecturer, over allegations of sexual harassment involving a married postgraduate student, Mrs. Kamila Rufai Aliyu.
The decision was confirmed in ATBU Herald (Vol. 39 No. 5, April 22) and followed the Council’s 96th regular meeting on April 11, 2025. According to the report, the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee found Dr. Aliyu guilty of misconduct after thorough investigation.

The dismissal letter stated:
“The council has subsequently approved your dismissal from the services of the university with immediate effect.”
Mrs. Aliyu had accused the lecturer of persistent harassment and threats to sabotage her academic journey if she didn’t comply with his sexual demands. Despite Dr. Aliyu’s counter-lawsuit for defamation against the student and the university, ATBU proceeded with disciplinary action.
The university emphasized that the dismissal was in line with Chapter 3, Item F, I (o) of its Senior Staff Conditions of Service.
Dr. Aliyu was also ordered to return all university property and surrender his ID card immediately.
