Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a move that is already reshaping the state’s political narrative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor’s defection was confirmed on Wednesday following a closed-door meeting held at the Government House in Asaba. Sources close to the development revealed that the decision came after “extensive consultations with political stakeholders” and was driven by what the governor reportedly described as the need to align with “a broader vision for the state’s long-term development.”
Elected in 2023 under the PDP banner, Governor Oborevwori’s shift to the ruling APC marks a significant political realignment, especially in a state that has long been a PDP stronghold. He was received into the party by top APC leaders, signaling a potentially transformative moment for the opposition in Delta State.
While the governor has yet to issue an official statement regarding the defection, sources suggest that further details explaining the strategic and ideological motivations behind the switch will be made public in the coming days.
