Nigeria’s leading airline, Air Peace, has announced the suspension of all its flight operations across the country, citing the ongoing industrial action by staff of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) as the primary cause.
The airline stated that the suspension became necessary due to the unavailability of QNH reports—critical hazardous weather data required for safe aircraft landings. Without these essential updates, the safety of operations could no longer be guaranteed.
In an official statement released by the Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, and shared via the airline’s verified X (formerly Twitter) account @flyairpeace, the management said:
“Due to the ongoing NiMet strike and the unavailability of QNH (hazardous weather) reports required for safe landings, Air Peace has suspended all flight operations nationwide until the strike is over. Your safety is our top priority. We appreciate your understanding and will share updates as the situation unfolds.”
The suspension has sparked widespread disruption and concern among travelers, with many taking to social media to express frustration and seek updates.
The strike by NiMet workers is part of a broader wave of industrial actions currently affecting critical sectors in the country, highlighting the growing tension between government agencies and labor unions over unresolved welfare and operational issues.
