MC Oluomo Responds to ‘Kundusi’ Mockery, Says Critics Should Compete with His Educated Children

The President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has addressed the recent backlash he faced over a language blunder, urging critics to measure themselves against the academic achievements of his children.

In a viral video shared on Tuesday, Akinsanya reacted to the ridicule that followed his mispronunciation of the word “kudos” as “kundusi” during a public speech. The slip quickly became a trending topic on social media, with many Nigerians mocking the transport union leader for his spoken English.

Unfazed by the criticism, MC Oluomo admitted that while he may not be fluent in English, he takes pride in the success of his children, who are citizens of the United States and the United Kingdom.

“I might not be good in English, but I trained my children well. If you come out to compete with them in expression, I’m not sure you can beat them,” he said. “Grammar won’t solve Nigeria’s problems. I may not understand English, but I understand Yoruba.”

Reflecting on his journey, he reminded critics of his rise from a bus conductor to his current position as NURTW national president. “I started as a conductor, then became unit treasurer, unit chairman, branch chairman, and now national president. I worked hard to get here,” he stated.

MC Oluomo also took a lighthearted jab at those mocking him. “They said I said ‘kundusi,’ but is my child not Qudus? You that are educated, what have you achieved?”

His children have a history of defending him publicly. In 2022, one of his sons, known as King West, lashed out at trolls who labeled his father a tout, insisting that his father, if theirs, would have been a source of love, care, and protection.
