“I’m Alive, My Time Is Not Up Yet” — Ebenezer Obey Debunks Death Rumours

Veteran Nigerian music icon, Chief Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, has dismissed widespread rumours of his death, assuring fans that he is alive, well, and in good health.

The legendary Juju musician, fondly known as Chief Commander, took to his official Instagram page on Tuesday morning to clear the air through a spirited video message. In the video, Obey sang a defiant tune in a blend of Yoruba, English, and Pidgin, declaring:
“Satan, you don lose o, you don pafuka… Na lie lie you dey talk.”

The clip came in response to viral social media reports late Monday claiming that the 83-year-old music evangelist had passed away — news that sparked confusion and premature tributes online.

Refuting the reports, Obey stated:
“It is fake news. It is a lie that started just a few hours ago claiming that I have passed on to glory. I am alive, and that is not the word Jesus has written concerning me.”

He expressed gratitude to those who reached out in concern, adding that it is not yet his appointed time, as he remains strong and committed to fulfilling his divine assignment.

His personal assistant, Tope Olukole, also quickly responded in an interview with TVC, labeling the death reports as baseless and unfounded.

This incident is not the first time such rumours have trailed the legendary musician. In July 2020, during an Instagram Live with Dele Momodu, Obey similarly had to deny a viral death hoax, affirming then that he had not yet completed his God-given mission.

The celebrated musician, who recently marked his 83rd birthday, has continued to inspire generations with his faith, resilience, and enduring musical legacy.
