Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has condemned the overnight burning of the Ilesa High Court 2 building by unknown arsonists, describing the attack as “an unjustifiable assault on the state judiciary.”
The incident, which occurred late Sunday night, resulted in the destruction of sensitive court documents and exhibits. By the time the state fire service arrived at the scene, the fire had already razed much of the structure.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mr. Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke ordered a thorough investigation into the attack and directed security agencies to increase surveillance across all court facilities in the state.
“Thorough investigation must be conducted by the security agencies to apprehend the suspects and ensure they face the consequences of their actions,” the governor said, while also mandating the Attorney General and the Ministry of Works to begin immediate reconstruction of the damaged court building.
Describing the attack as a threat to democracy, Adeleke emphasized that the judiciary remains a crucial pillar of the democratic system and must be protected rather than targeted.
The motive behind the arson remains unclear, and authorities have not yet made any arrests as investigations continue.
