A joyous celebration turned tragic in Lagos State when a yet-to-be-identified man reportedly slumped and died during his wife’s 60th birthday Thanksgiving.
The heartbreaking incident, which occurred on Saturday, April 19, 2025, gained public attention after a video circulated online showing the man and his wife in high spirits at the event. In the short clip, the man could be seen holding a microphone and singing praises while his wife danced joyfully beside him.
However, moments later, the man collapsed mid-performance. Eyewitnesses claim he died shortly after, although official confirmation of his death has not been made public.
As the video went viral, Nigerians took to social media to express shock and share mixed reactions. While some speculated the man may have been struggling with a health condition, others criticized the wife for not reacting quickly enough when he reportedly expressed discomfort.
Chidimma Ohaeri Azuogu wrote on Facebook, “He told the wife how he’s feeling but the wife was too lazy to hold him and call for help… I hope he did not die oooo… When you know your partner’s health, there should be a level of stress you shouldn’t allow them into.”
Another user, Chijioke Stanley, shared a different view: “You can blame the woman, but blame the man too because he knew his health condition before going to the Thanksgiving. It has happened. May his soul rest in peace.”
Reactions also trailed on X (formerly Twitter), with users warning about health awareness and the pressures men often endure. One user, @Ekene_Chigozie, advised, “Always check your blood pressure,” while @iamizuogu added, “Another landlady added. After men work themselves out, they never live to eat the fruit of their labor. It’s sad—landlady everywhere.”
While the man’s identity and cause of death remain unconfirmed, the incident has reignited conversations about health consciousness, emotional pressure, and the toll celebratory obligations can have on individuals—especially the elderly.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
