Davido Eyes Into Nollywood: ‘I’m Investing in Films and Series This Year

Nigerian music icon, David Adeleke, known globally as Davido, has shared his aspirations to make significant inroads into Nollywood, revealing plans to invest in multiple film projects this year. The superstar, who has already made waves in the music industry, admitted that filmmaking has long been a passion of his, one he would have pursued had he not ventured into music.

In an interview with content creator Darryl, Davido opened up about his background in business marketing and how it has always kept him connected to the entertainment industry, albeit potentially from behind the scenes. “I studied business marketing, so I would have still been in the entertainment space if I wasn’t singing, but probably more of behind the scenes,” Davido shared.

The “Fall” singer is now setting his sights on the African film industry, noting the sector’s current struggles and expressing his intention to inject fresh life into it. He revealed that he is collaborating with his longtime music video director, Dammy Twitch, to bring a number of creative film and series ideas to fruition. “I am investing in a couple of films this year… the film space right now in Africa is going bankrupt. So, we are definitely going to tap into that,” he declared.

In addition to film production, Davido expressed a keen interest in acting. Having showcased his acting skills in several of his music videos, including hits like ‘Jowo’ and ‘Nwa Baby’, he is confident in his ability to take on more substantial acting roles. “I can also act. I can act for real. I act in my music videos,” he noted.

On the music front, Davido recently released his much-anticipated fifth studio album, ‘5ive’, which features an impressive 17 tracks and collaborations with both international and local stars. The album, which includes hits like ‘Be There Still’ and ‘Funds’ featuring Odumodublvck and Chike, marks his return two years after the success of his previous project, ‘Timeless’.
