Goldsmiths Announces Fully-Funded PhD Opportunities Through Migrant Futures Doctoral Studentships for 2025-26

Goldsmiths, University of London, is offering two prestigious and fully-funded Migrant Futures Doctoral Studentships for the 2025-26 academic year. These opportunities are part of a major initiative supported by Oak Foundation to establish the Migrant Futures Institute (MFI), which aims to reshape migration studies through innovative, impact-driven research and a commitment to centering migrant voices.

What’s on Offer?

Two doctoral studentships are available, offering full coverage of tuition fees and a competitive annual stipend equivalent to the UKRI rate (currently £22,780 for full-time study in 2025/26). Awards may be held on a full-time basis (over three years) or part-time (over six years), with proportional funding and access to a small annual research training and support fund.

Who Can Apply?

• Award 1: Open exclusively to UK-based applicants who identify as migrants or refugees from racialised ethnic minority backgrounds. Applicants may pursue any PhD topic (not necessarily migration-related) but must demonstrate how their research enhances their own or others’ economic, creative, or intellectual lives.
• Award 2: Open to both UK and international applicants whose proposed research focuses on migration or racialisation. Projects must include community co-production and aim for tangible cultural or social impact.

Benefits of the Studentship:

• Full tuition and maintenance funding
• Affiliation with the Migrant Futures Institute as a designated Fellow
• Participation in MFI’s collaborative, creative, and academic programming
• Applicants from global majority backgrounds may also join the Generation Delta Goldsmiths initiative, supporting underrepresented groups in doctoral study.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be either:

• New doctoral students; or
• Currently enrolled PhD students who will not have completed more than 1 year (full-time) or 2 years (part-time) by the start of the 2025-26 academic year.

1. Research Proposal (max. 2000 words): Clearly outline your research questions, methodology, ethics, contribution to your field, potential social impact, and work timeline.
2. Personal Statement (max. 500 words): Reflect on how your past experiences inform your research and how you will contribute to the Goldsmiths academic community.
