The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, on Tuesday inaugurated a 21-member ad-hoc committee to temporarily oversee legislative functions in Rivers State following the suspension of the State House of Assembly.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, drew representation from all six geo-political zones of the country. Speaker Abbas emphasized that the committee’s mandate is non-partisan and crucial to ensuring peace, stability, and effective governance in the oil-rich state.
“Your task is to oversee Rivers State following Mr President’s emergency proclamation. You must not be partisan or biased,” Abbas said, addressing the members.
The ad-hoc committee is chaired by House Leader, Professor Julius Ihonvbere, with Ali Isah (PDP, Gombe) serving as Deputy Chairman. Other members include Idris Wase (North Central), Aliyu Muktar (North East), Sada Soli (North West), Iduma Igariwey (South East), Shehu Rijau, Wole Oke, Akara Hi Amadi, Patrick Umoh, and Isa Anka.
James Faleke, who represents the South West, was unavoidably absent at the inauguration.
