No Supremacy Battle Between Ooni and Alaafin – Olugbon Declares

The Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olusola Alao, has firmly stated that there is no supremacy battle between the Ooni of Ife and the newly installed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I.

Speaking to journalists after a courtesy visit to the Alaafin at his residence, Oba Alao, who also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, emphasized unity and cooperation among Yoruba traditional rulers. He described the new Alaafin as “God’s chosen,” praising his wisdom, academic excellence, and calm demeanor.

Oba Alao reiterated the historic and cultural bond between the Olugbon and the Alaafin, noting that their alliance dates back to the era of the Oyo Empire. He said their meeting focused on progressive discussions regarding the Oyo State Government, the traditional council, and the development of Yoruba land.

“In fact, we are blessed with this new Alaafin. He is very cerebral, he is a man of wisdom, and he chooses his words carefully,” Olugbon said, lauding Governor Seyi Makinde for overseeing a transparent and successful selection process.

Addressing rumors of rivalry among traditional rulers following the coronation, the Olugbon urged calm, asserting: “Alaafin will remain Alaafin, Ooni will remain Ooni of Ife, there is no dispute.”

The monarch also stressed the importance of synergy between the traditional institution and the state government for the progress of Oyo State and the entire Yoruba region.
