Oyo State College of Nursing to Begin Degree Programmes Soon – Provost

The Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences, Eleyele, Ibadan is set to transition into a degree-awarding institution, following a series of strategic developments aimed at elevating the academic standing of the college.

This was disclosed in a statement e-signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Oyo State, on Sunday, April 13, 2025. The announcement was made during a special event where Set X (1979–1982) of the college donated a 110-inch interactive electronic board and a projector to the institution as part of their reunion celebrations.

According to the Provost of the College, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, plans are in motion to affiliate the college with the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), a move that will enable students to pursue both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing directly from the college.

“We are in the process of finalizing affiliation with LAUTECH to provide a veritable platform for our students to obtain degrees and advance their careers right from here,” she said.
“This development will empower our students to reach the pinnacle of their profession within the same institution that nurtured their foundational skills.”

As part of the reunion festivities, members of Set X (1979–1982) donated the cutting-edge teaching tools, while the 1985 set also contributed by donating an industrial borehole to the college.

The industrial borehole was commissioned by Mrs. Arinola, a former Director of Nursing Services, while the interactive board and projector were commissioned by Mrs. Obasa, a former Permanent Secretary at the Oyo State Ministry of Health.

Commending the alumni contributions, Dr. Owolabi expressed gratitude, describing the gesture as both timely and transformative.

“The noble initiative of the old students will in no small measure contribute to educational development in Oyo State. It is indeed encouraging, laudable, commendable, and appreciated,” she noted.

Dr. Owolabi further affirmed the college’s commitment to excellence in nursing education, emphasizing that the institution has received approval to establish faculties and would soon launch more programmes pending full accreditation by relevant federal regulatory bodies.

“We are fully committed to theoretical and practical training, as well as continuous skills development,” she added.
“Our goal is to maintain our leadership position as the premier nursing institution in Nigeria.”

She also urged alumni to remain active in supporting the college, highlighting the impact of their efforts on current and future generations.

Speaking earlier, Dr. Yemisi Bhadmus-Ladi, Chairperson of the 1979–1982 Set, praised the institution for its foundational role in their careers.

“The School of Nursing, Eleyele — now the College of Nursing Sciences — was the stepping stone to our greatness,” she said.
She also thanked members of the set for their unwavering dedication to completing the donation projects.
