Lagos Varsity Dismisses Three Lecturers Over Sexual Harassment Allegations

The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has dismissed three lecturers following investigations into allegations of sexual harassment.

The affected staff members are Mr. Nurudeen Hassan from the Department of Mass Communication, as well as Mr. Kareem Arigbabu and Mr. Olayinka Uthman, both from the Department of Arts and Design.

According to an official memo titled “Dismissal of Staff Members Due to Sexual Harassment Allegations,” the decision was approved by the university’s Governing Council in accordance with Section 5.5.2(v) of the institution’s Senior Staff Conditions of Service.

“The Governing Council of LASUSTECH has taken decisive action in response to these allegations. After thorough investigation and deliberation, the council approved the immediate dismissal of the affected individuals,” the memo stated.

The university emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on sexual misconduct, describing the action as a demonstration of its commitment to upholding a safe and respectful academic environment.

“The institution takes sexual harassment seriously, as such conduct undermines our values and disrupts the learning atmosphere. This decision is a reflection of LASUSTECH’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a harassment-free campus,” the statement added.

Confirming the development, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Olanrewaju Kuye, told Intel Region News that due process was followed.

“It is true. The three staff members were dismissed following a disciplinary committee’s investigation. They were issued queries and given fair hearing before the Governing Council made its decision,” Kuye said.
