The United States Embassy in Nigeria has introduced new guidelines for visa interview applicants, effective April 22, 2025, in both Abuja and Lagos. The updated process is aimed at ensuring accuracy and streamlining the visa application process.
According to an official statement released on Friday, all visa applicants must bring the DS-160 confirmation page with a valid barcode number (starting with “AA” followed by two zeroes). This barcode must match the one used to book the applicant’s interview appointment. Failure to present matching information will result in denied entry to the Consular Section and a cancelled interview.
The Embassy emphasized:
“Applicants must schedule their visa interview in the same location they selected when completing the DS-160 form.”
Key Requirements for US Visa Applicants in Nigeria:
• Matching DS-160 Barcode: Ensure the barcode number on your DS-160 form matches the one used during appointment scheduling.
• No Reuse of DS-160 Forms: Each visa application must have a unique DS-160 form. Previously submitted DS-160 forms cannot be reused.
• Two-Week Check: Applicants are strongly advised to verify barcode accuracy at least two weeks before their interview date.
• Incorrect Barcodes: If the barcode is incorrect, applicants must log into their AVITS account and submit a support ticket at least 10 days before the interview to request correction.
• Missed Appointments: If turned away due to barcode mismatches, applicants must fix the issue and reschedule a new appointment via AVITS. If the visa fee has expired, a new payment will be required.
