The Ogun State Government has announced the temporary closure of the historic Olumo Rock Tourist Centre in Abeokuta starting April 14, 2025, to commence a comprehensive renovation and facelift of the iconic landmark.
This development was made public in a statement by Mr. Sesan Fagbayi, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, who said the move is aimed at enhancing tourism infrastructure and preserving one of Nigeria’s most culturally significant heritage sites.
According to Fagbayi, the renovation is part of a broader effort by the state government to reposition Ogun as a top-tier tourism destination, and to ensure that Olumo Rock, which attracts over 70,000 visitors annually, offers an improved and safer experience.
“This temporary closure is necessary for us to carry out essential upgrades that will not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of Olumo Rock but also improve safety and comfort for all our visitors,” Fagbayi stated.
He expressed apologies for any inconvenience caused by the closure and assured the public that timely updates will be provided as the project progresses.
The Olumo Rock facelift aligns with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s pledge to transform the tourist site into a world-class destination and cultural symbol for both domestic and international tourists.
