NPFL Sanctions Shooting Stars with N5m Fine, Stadium Ban Over Fan Violence

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has slammed Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan with a total fine of N5 million and an indefinite home stadium fan ban following a violent incident involving their supporters during Matchday 32 against Ikorodu City FC.

The NPFL disciplinary committee, which met on Wednesday, found 3SC guilty of three separate breaches of league regulations after fans attacked the visiting Ikorodu City contingent at the Lekan Salami Stadium on April 6, 2025.

The club was fined N1 million for failing to provide adequate security, allowing unauthorized individuals to access restricted areas and harass match officials. Another N1 million fine was imposed for their failure to ensure proper conduct of supporters, which led to the assault on the away team’s supporters. A further N1 million was levied for failure to control their fans, and an additional N1 million for objects thrown at the match officials and onto the field, in violation of Rule B13.18.

Beyond the fines, 3SC is also required to pay N2 million in compensation to Ikorodu City for damages sustained by the team’s bus during the post-match chaos.

In a decisive move to restore discipline, the panel ordered that Shooting Stars play the remainder of their home games this season behind closed doors, effectively banning fans from the Lekan Salami Stadium.

Under Rule C26 of the NPFL Framework and Rules, Shooting Stars have 48 hours to either accept the ruling or file an appeal.
