The Edo State House of Assembly on Monday announced a change in its leadership structure, removing Natasha Osawaru, widely known as the lover of Nigerian music icon Tuface Idibia, from her position as Deputy Majority Leader.
Speaker Blessing Agbebaku and Deputy Speaker Maria Edeko—both members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—retained their positions despite the changes. The reshuffle followed a letter from the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which recently attained majority status in the Assembly.
According to the letter signed by APC acting state chairman Jarret Tenebe and secretary Lawrence Okah, the party nominated new principal officers. As a result, Charity Aiguobarueghian (Majority Leader), Natasha Osawaru (Deputy Leader), and Yekini Idaiye (Chief Whip), all PDP members, were replaced.
The new appointees are Hon. Ibhamawu Jonathan Aigbokhan (Esan West) as Majority Leader, Hon. Addeh Emakhu Isibor (Esan North-East I) as Deputy Leader, and Hon. Lecky Hussein Mustapha (Etsako West I) as Chief Whip—all members of the APC.
A proposed position for Deputy Chief Whip was also scrapped after it was discovered the role does not exist in the legislative structure.
Speaker Agbebaku acknowledged the APC’s majority status and disclosed that the PDP would also submit its nominees for other principal roles. He, however, hinted that his own position and that of the Deputy Speaker may not be safe from further changes.
