Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has addressed lingering rumours about a fallout between him and fellow Nigerian artist Tiwa Savage, insisting there is no bad blood between them.
Speaking during an interview on The Breakfast Club on Tuesday, Davido described their past differences as a “minor disagreement,” emphasizing the long-standing bond they share.
“That’s my sister, man. She’s cool,” he said. “I remember when me and Tiwa used to stay in the same house. That’s like my big sis. She saw me as a youngin’, you know what I’m saying?”
The Grammy-nominated singer went on to explain that the situation stemmed from a personal issue, particularly surrounding his custody battle with the mother of his first daughter, who is close friends with Tiwa Savage.
“She’s very, very good friends with the mom of my daughter. We were in court, having custody issues. So I just felt like, ‘help me, you know, see my daughter,’ that type of stuff. We got into a little argument — nothing serious. Just like brothers and sisters arguing,” he explained.
In January 2024, Tiwa Savage had reportedly filed a police complaint alleging that Davido made threats toward her after she posted a picture with the singer’s ex-partner, the mother of his first child. However, Davido’s recent comments suggest a willingness to move past the dispute.
The interview also touched on wider industry dynamics, with Davido noting that the Nigerian music scene has grown beyond the longstanding “Big 3” debate involving himself, Wizkid, and Burna Boy.
“The culture is bigger than the Big 3 right now,” Davido said. “There’s Rema, Ayra Starr, and many more. Right now, we all understand it’s bigger than us.”
Davido didn’t rule out the possibility of a collaboration among the trio, although he admitted external tensions might be hindering such a move.
“Some people make money off us not being cool, I guess. But we’ve all been cool at some point. It’s not impossible,” he concluded.
