Lagos NURTW Chairman, Sego, Escapes Assassination Attempt as Gunmen Invade Home

The Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Saturday, April 5, 2025, after six armed men stormed his residence in the Surulere area of Lagos.

According to sources, the attackers arrived at Sego’s residence on Gbadamosi Close around 11 p.m., only to discover that he was not at home at the time of the invasion. The assailants reportedly tied up the security guard and ransacked the house in an apparent attempt to locate the union leader.

It was gathered that Sego had stepped out earlier in the evening to attend an event with a few associates who had visited him earlier in the day.

The violent intrusion sent shockwaves across the neighborhood, with residents expressing deep concern over the boldness of the attack and the fear that the perpetrators could return.

Officers from the Area C Police Command have since visited the scene to assess the extent of the damages and commence investigations. The security guard, who was unharmed, is said to have provided critical information to aid police inquiries.

A close associate of Sego confirmed the union leader’s safety and expressed his alarm over the incident, especially at a time when he is spearheading reforms to enhance the welfare of NURTW members. The associate further stated that Sego is committed to cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities to ensure the attackers are identified and brought to justice.
