Ibadan Poly Delegation Condoles with Olunloyo Family, Celebrates His Legacy

The Acting Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan (TPI), Dr. Taiwo Abideen Lasisi, led a delegation on a condolence visit to the family of the late Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo at his residence in Molete, Ibadan, on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

Dr. Olunloyo, the first principal of TPI and former governor of the Old Oyo State, passed away recently, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in education and governance.

The press release regarding the visit was issued by Alhaji Soladoye Adewole, the Public Relations Officer of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.

 

Dr. Lasisi described Dr. Olunloyo as a trailblazer who laid the solid foundation for the growth of the institution. “Dr. Olunloyo was a visionary leader who pioneered the growth of TPI as the first Principal, a position now known as Rector,” he said.

He further noted that the late elder statesman played a crucial role in the early development of the institution, both academically and in terms of infrastructure.

Dr. Lasisi also highlighted Dr. Olunloyo’s later contribution to the state as governor, adding that his influence extended beyond education to impact the entire nation. While expressing the condolences of The Polytechnic, Ibadan community, Dr. Lasisi prayed for strength and comfort for the Olunloyo family during this difficult time. He also promised that TPI would continue to honor Dr. Olunloyo’s memory, ensuring his legacy is preserved for future generations.

In response, Mrs. Olunloyo, the widow of the late Dr. Olunloyo, expressed gratitude to the Rector and his team for their thoughtful visit. She assured the delegation that the family would keep the institution informed of the burial arrangements, enabling the Polytechnic community to participate in the final rites.

The delegation included the Deputy Rector, Mrs. Olaide Salawu; Acting Registrar, Mr. Joseph Adewumi Ogunjimi; Dean of Students’ Affairs, Mr. J.A. Makinde; Personal Assistant to the Rector, Mr. Olaoye; and the Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Soladoye Adewole.

Dr. Olunloyo’s contributions to TPI and the broader educational landscape remain a testament to his visionary leadership, and his legacy continues to inspire both the academic community and the nation at large.
