Nigerian music sensation Davido has revealed plans to hold a white wedding with his wife, Chioma Rowland, this August in Miami, marking the next chapter of their celebrated love story.
The Grammy-nominated singer made the announcement during an interview on The Breakfast Club, where he reflected on the cultural contrasts between African and American marital traditions, particularly regarding family involvement in marriages.
“Back home, a lot of men grow up very close to their mothers, and even after getting married, the bond continues. In some homes, the mother must live with the couple and support her son no matter what. That dynamic plays a big role,” Davido explained.
Having previously held a grand traditional wedding in Nigeria that drew nationwide attention, Davido shared that the Miami ceremony would be a continuation of that public celebration.
“I’m doing my white wedding in Miami in August. The wedding I did was traditional; it was like a carnival in Nigeria, like a public holiday. The whole world stood still,” he said.
The 32-year-old Atlanta-born artist opened up about the challenges they’ve faced as a couple, including public scrutiny and personal losses. He expressed gratitude for Chioma’s unwavering support and discretion, praising her for staying grounded despite their very public relationship.
“My wife, you can never see her go to any interview or go on live to rant about anything — the normal things people do. I appreciate her for that because she could, but she chooses not to,” he said.
Davido admitted to past mistakes and called their forthcoming white wedding a “full-circle moment” that allows Chioma to finally receive the celebration she deserves.
He concluded, “Nobody’s perfect, and I’d be lying if I said we are. But we’ve come a long way, and this is just the beginning.”
