Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has officially emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the forthcoming November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State.
Soludo, who ran unopposed in the party’s primary election, was affirmed by party delegates during a peaceful and well-organized exercise held at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the state capital.
According to the Returning Officer, Uche Nwegbo, a total of 3,260 delegates were expected for the primary. Of these, 3,175 delegates were accredited, while 3,172 votes were cast. Soludo secured 3,168 ‘yes’ votes, with four votes deemed invalid—securing an overwhelming endorsement with no opposing vote.
“By the powers conferred on me, I hereby declare Prof. Chukwuma Soludo as the duly elected candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance for the 2025 Anambra governorship election,” Nwegbo announced.
In his acceptance speech, Soludo expressed gratitude to party members and delegates for their solidarity and trust in his leadership.
“Anambra is APGA, and APGA is Anambra. I am humbled by this historic show of unity and support. I wholeheartedly accept this nomination,” he said.
The former Central Bank Governor emphasized that his administration has been committed to developing the state without accruing debt.
“We’re doing this without borrowing a single Naira. We’ve only just begun. Anambra has not seen anything yet,” Soludo declared, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to infrastructural and economic development.
Soludo confirmed that his current Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim, will remain his running mate in the 2025 contest.
“If it’s not broken, why mend it?” he quipped, reaffirming his confidence in Ibezim’s partnership.
He also expressed optimism ahead of the general election, stating his belief that APGA would record a landslide victory across the state.
“We will win all 21 local government areas, all 326 wards, and maybe even every polling unit. We are not just contesting—we are making a statement,” he concluded.
The APGA primary was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security operatives, and was praised for its transparency and decorum.
