Prominent Ibadan businessman and politician, Chief Yekinni Adeojo, has passed away. He died in the early hours of Friday, marking the end of an era for one of Oyo State’s political veterans.
Details of his death remain sketchy as of press time, but sources say he will be buried later today in line with Islamic rites.
Adeojo was a key figure in Oyo State’s political landscape, notably contesting the 1999 governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He lost the race to fellow Ibadan politician, the late Alhaji Lamidi Adesina of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
Despite multiple attempts to govern the state, Chief Adeojo’s ambitions were repeatedly thwarted, largely due to his longstanding political rivalry with the late Chief Lamidi Adedibu, the influential Ibadan political godfather.
Until his death, Adeojo remained a respected voice in political and business circles. He is survived by children, including Sherif Adeojo, the current chairman of Ido Local Government.
Further details on the burial arrangements are yet to be announced.
